FAQ VARIBOX Safeline Precision

This FAQ VARIBOX Safeline Precision contains frequently asked questions about the VARIBOX Safeline Precision system with an extractor tube. This FAQ applies to both the VARIBOX Full Containment and the VARIBOX Compact Containment.

Characteristics of VARIBOX Safeline Precision

What is the VARIBOX Safeline Precision system?
The VARIBOX Safeline Precision is a system with an extractor tube in the VARIBOX that reaches the lowest point of the inner container. A coupler can be connected to the top of the extractor tube. The Safeline Precision system is an option on the VARIBOX that allows the product to be extracted without opening the Intermediate Bulk Container. This makes safe working with chemicals possible, and fumes and product cannot escape from the VARIBOX.
How does the VARIBOX Safeline Precision work?
A leak-tight connection will be established when connecting the coupler. At the same time, the VARIBOX Safeline Precision extractor tube and the coupler are opened. The product can now flow, and air can enter. Fumes and product cannot escape.
Can fumes and product escape when using the Safeline Precision?
No, the VARIBOX with the VARIBOX Safeline Precision system forms a closed system. When disconnecting, the coupler and extractor tube will automatically close. After disconnecting, there can be still some moist on the Safeline Precision system, avoid contact with these parts.
How long will it take to extract all the product from the VARIBOX FC with the Safeline Precision sytem?
The capacity is approximately 50 litres per hour, so typically for dosing applications. To empty a VARIBOX with 1000 litres of product using the VARIBOX Safeline Precision extractor tube it will theoretically take you 20 hours. This can vary with the viscosity of the product and the capacity of the pump installation. For higher capacities we recommend the use of VARIBOX Safeline Performance.
Does the VARIBOX Safeline Precision extractor tube have a non-return valve?
The VARIBOX Safeline Precision extractor tube has a non-return valve, sometimes called foot valve. This will allow for the use of several types of pumps. A non-return valve is not a leak tight valve. When the VARIBOX with a VARIBOX Safeline Precision extractor tube is not used for a longer period, the product level in the extractor tube may gradually drop. When again switching on the pump there is a chance that air will be pumped first.
To which products is the VARIBOX Safeline Performance system resistant?
The VARIBOX Safeline Precision system has been developed for use with chemicals. The VARIBOX Safeline Precision system is resistant to most chemicals, but it is very important to choose the correct version. If you have specific questions about chemical resistance, please feel free to contact us.
Which versions of VARIBOX Safeline Precision system are available for the VARIBOX?
There are two versions of the VARIBOX Safeline Precision system: EPDM and Viton. If you have specific questions about chemical resistance, please feel free to contact us.
What does the EPDM version of the Safeline Precision system look like?
The connection of the EPDM version is round and red. It has has stainless-steel springs. The extractor tube and housing are made of polyethene. If you have specific questions about chemical resistance, contact us.
What does the Viton version of Safeline Precision look like?
The connection of the Viton version is green and has a 12-angular shape. The Viton version has Hastelloy springs. Extractor tube and housing are made of polyethene. If you have specific questions about chemical resistance, contact us.

Difference between Safeline Performance and Precision

When do I need to use the Safeline Performance System?
The VARIBOX Safeline Performance is specially designed to pump up high volumes. When you need 20 litres or more per minute, you need the Safeline Performance.

When do I need to use the Safeline Precision System?
The Safeline Precision is specially designed for pumping out small volumes of the VARIBOX. When you need small volumes of up to 50 litres per hour, you need to use the Safeline Precision

What is the life-time of the Safeline Performance and Safeline Precision system?
To ensure the safety of the VARIBOX with VARIBOX Safeline Precision and Safeline Performance system, it is recommended to replace the VARIBOX Safeline Precision system every year. Inspect the VARIBOX Safeline Precision extractor tube and coupler regularly for possible damage and replace if necessary.

Connecting the VARIBOX Safeline Precision system

How do I connect the VARIBOX Safeline Precision coupler to the extractor tube?
Make sure that the handle of the VARIBOX Safeline Precision coupler is inclined upwards. Slide the coupler completely over the VARIBOX Safeline Precision extractor tube. Turn and clip the metal bracket underneath the edge of the extractor tube. Push the handle of the coupler downwards until it clicks in position. The Safeline Precision system is now connected. And the product can be pumped out.
Can I disconnect the coupler at any time?
No, pay attention to overpressure in the VARIBOX. There is a risk of leakage when disconnecting when there is an overpressure inside the VARIBOX. When the VARIBOX is pressurized, the pressure must be released first. This can be done by switching on the pump or by opening the screwcap. Make sure to wear personal protection.
How should the extractor hose be connected to the coupler?
The extractor hose must be flexible to avoid excessive force on the Safeline Precision coupler. It is important that the hose is attached at 180° to the handle: the weight of the hose and its contents shouldn’t pull the handle downwards.
How much product is left after emptying?
Just a little bit of product remains in the VARIBOX, because the Safeline Precision extractor tube is placed in the lowest point of the inner container. Because of the low residue, handling and transporting an emptied VARIBOX is much safer. After emptying, approximately 0.1 litre remains in the VARIBOX. About 0.2 litre remains in the extractor tube itself. These quantities are based on water and will vary per chemical product.
